Human File #752 - It's the end of the world, and they know it.
This was my first attempt at combining CGI elements into live action footage. The overall project was a mock documentary about the end of the world. My effect in the last shot was for the "surprise ending" in which it's revealed that the documentary is being made by aliens. I was given footage of the actor shaking hands with the arm of somebody off camera and it was my responsibility to make the arm look alien. I cut out the original arm by replacing it with footage from earlier in the shot and replaced it with a completely CGI arm which I modeled, textured, rigged, and animated myself. I rotoscoped the original hand and added effects to make it look liquified and had it flicker in and out as if it were holographic .
